Signature arbitration partner Tsegaye Laurendeau elected to ICC Court

2 July 2024

Tsegaye’s prestigious new role creates an important opportunity for him to collaborate with top professionals in the field of international arbitration and to contribute to the global business community alongside the ICC, one of the world’s leading arbitral institutions.

Tsegaye’s election to the ICC Court represents another milestone in Signature’s continued commitment to developing its international arbitration practices globally and demonstrates the quality of the firm’s bench of international arbitration practitioners across the team.

Tsegaye has extensive experience and understanding of conducting arbitrations in Sub-Saharan Africa and MENA. With over 14 years’ experience of international arbitrations as counsel, Tsegaye has advised and represented companies, States and State-owned entities in arbitrations conducted pursuant to the arbitration rules of many of the major arbitration institutions including the ICC, LCIA, ICSID, CRCICA, HKIAC and UNCITRAL, with a particular focus on disputes in the oil and gas, energy, mining, construction and telecoms sectors.

Tsegaye has also developed an expertise in arbitrations involving complex corporate structures, financial products, accounting and tax issues and matters relating to quantum.

Commenting on his appointment, Tsegaye Laurendeau said: “I am delighted with this news. This mandate will give me the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most talented individuals in the international arbitration space. This is an immense privilege for which I am extremely grateful. I owe this achievement to my exceptional mentors and the many brilliant colleagues I was blessed with over the past fourteen years.”

Ioannis Alexopoulos, international arbitration partner at Signature’s London office commented: “We are thrilled with Tsegaye's appointment to the ICC Court as it is a reflection of the high quality of our bench and our commitment to take our International Arbitration practice to the next level.”

Tsegaye’s election to the Court follows in the same week that Signature announced the opening of its new office in Frankfurt, Germany, and the appointments of Partners Ulrich Helm and Dr. Jan Kraayvanger from Mayer Brown, to lead the firm’s new presence there. The launch of the Frankfurt office signals added strength in relation to construction, engineering and renewable energy arbitrations, where both Philip Dunham in Paris and now Ulrich Helm in Frankfurt have noted expertise, thereby connecting the two offices across Western Europe.

Signature comprises 26 partners and over 100 members of staff globally at its offices in London, Paris, Gibraltar and now Frankfurt.
