Abdulali Jiwaji comments on the fines levied against UK banks since the start of 2024 and considers whether enforcement will ease

Commenting in relation to the total value of regulatory penalties issued against banks in the UK since 2024 and whether the market might see any sort of slow down from regulators, Abdul said, "There is zero chance of a let up.  The FCA will continue to target AML failures."

Abdul also notes regulatory bodies have indicated that financial crime is one of the key priorities for retail banks in 2025 - this means looking at controls to make sure they are effective.  The FCA will likely want to consistently message the market on the aspects of effective systems and controls within banks, while also making sure there is no detrimental impact on consumer transactions.
