Biography

Paul Grant is a Senior Associate at Signature’s Gibraltar office. A well-rounded practitioner with broad litigation experience, he advises clients across a wide range of contentious matters. Paul was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2017 and subsequently to the Gibraltar Bar in 2019.

Paul’s practice centres on contentious trusts and estates work. He regularly appears in both the Supreme Court of Gibraltar and the Court of Appeal on matters relating to the administration of trusts.

Company litigation forms a further core area of Paul’s practice. He has represented clients in shareholder and director disputes, as well as in winding up and bankruptcy petitions, and applications for injunctive relief including worldwide freezing orders.

Paul also maintains a broad commercial practice. He has advised on financial regulatory matters and represented GibFibre Limited, a broadband provider, in a ground-breaking competition law claim against the state-owned telecommunications provider, Gibtelecom Limited, under the Competition Act 2020-the first of its kind in Gibraltar.

In addition, Paul advises on defamation and privacy matters and has been instructed in connection with inquests and public inquiries. He is a member of the Gibraltar Medical Registration Board, which regulates the professional conduct of registered medical practitioners.

Paul is recognised as a ‘Leading Associate’ in The Legal 500 EMEA 2026 Guide for Dispute Resolution in Gibraltar, where he is described as the “complete package: clever and thoughtful in his analysis; clear and cogent in his written and oral expression; dependable and indefatigable.” He is also ranked as an Associate to Watch in Chambers Europe 2026 who “displays remarkable agility, consistently thinking on his feet and acting swiftly.”

Before entering the legal profession, Paul spent several years working as a broadcast journalist.

Paul is a native English speaker and is fluent in Spanish.

"Veritable star in the making."

Experience

  • Representing GibFibre Limited, a privately owned broadband operator, in a series of ground-breaking disputes against Gibtelecom, a wholly owned Government company and incumbent telecoms operator in Gibraltar, and its subsidiary, concerning GibFibre’s access to Gibtelecom’s Data Centre. The disputes involve first of their kind challenges under Gibraltar Communications Act 2009 against the decisions of the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority, with appeals to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London, as well as a c.EUR 20m claim by GibFibre arising out of allegations of an abuse of dominant position by Gibtelecom contrary to EU law and (Gibraltar) Competition Act 2020.
  • Representing the majority shareholder of a Gibraltar-incorporated social gaming company in the first derivative claim brought under the Companies Act 2014. The proceedings, before the Supreme Court of Gibraltar, involve allegations of breach of fiduciary duty and unlawful means conspiracy against the company’s sole de jure director and shadow directors. The claim raises a number of complex law issues, including the circumstances in which the Court should grant permission to a shareholder to bring derivative proceedings, and is estimated to be worth tens of millions of pounds.
  • Representing a core participant in a public inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the early retirement of the former Commissioner of the Royal Gibraltar Police.
  • Representing the family of a Gibraltar-born man in an inquest concerning his death in a Gibraltar hospital over 10 years ago who had suffered a brain injury in a UK prison over 20 years ago.
  • Advising the trustee of a high value trust on the operation of loan notes under Gibraltar law valued at GBP 200m in the context of a family dispute.
  • Representing the executor of a will in an application to the Probate Jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Gibraltar to unlock significant funds held in a private bank in Gibraltar. The matter involved complex advisory work on jurisdictional issues.
  • Representing several defendants in a multi-million pound dispute concerning the ownership and control of a token issuer in respect of crypto tokens valued at USD $100m, including discharge of trust preservation and worldwide freezing orders before the Supreme Court of Gibraltar and the Court of Appeal.
  • Representing a director and investment manager of a company registered and licensed in Gibraltar as an Experienced Investor Fund in the defence against multi-million EUR claims for alleged breaches of fiduciary duties, breach of contract, knowing receipt and dishonest assistance.
  • Representing a Channel Islands company in a multi-million GBP claim arising out of loan agreements within a complex trust structure.
  • Representing a beneficiary of a high-value 19th century will trust (through a series of wills) seeking estate distribution. The matter involved complex trustee and beneficiary capacity issue, as well as difficulties in ascertaining other beneficiaries and subsequent application for a Benjamin Order.
